Perpetually in someone else's shadow, Felix is the second son but the heir apparent to House Fraldarius in the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus. His father, Duke and Lord Rodrigue, was old friends with the former King Lambert to the extent that he is known as the "Shield of Faerghus"; his talent in battle during a war with the neighboring country Sreng additionally brought the family attention. His older brother, Glenn, was also a man of respect and notoriety, earning both knighthood at a young age and a place among the guard of the royal family. The brothers were well-connected among the next generation of Faerghian nobility; Felix's childhood friends included the crown prince (Dimitri Blaiddyd), a count's daughter and Glenn's betrothed (Ingrid Galatea), and a Margrave's son (Sylvain Gautier).
Of the two defining events in his past prior to the game's start, both revolve around Dimitri and death.
At thirteen, his older brother was killed during an event called the Tragedy of Duscur - a massacre of the royal family and their guard, leaving only Prince Dimitri alive. Their father saw Glenn's sacrifice as the ultimate expression of his son's loyalty to their homeland, that his death was "honorable and in service to the king". This proclamation broke Felix and Rodrigue's relationship beyond repair. Grieving Glenn's loss, Felix understood his father's words as devaluing who Glenn had been as a person, and his death now more valuable, "honorable", than his living. From that point on, Felix hated knighthood - an organization that fed on the cycle of death and sacrifice, wrapped up in false ideals to mask this fact - and his father's role in it.
At fifteen, while (ironically) serving as squire to a Faerghian knight, Felix and Dimitri were in battle together - and Dimitri committed an act so bloodthirsty and violent that it broke what, until then, had been one of the strongest friendships both boys had. Unable to forgive or forget what Dimitri had done (the details of which are vague, but can be assumed to be the madness players later see), Felix pulled away from his other friends, nobility completely, and focused instead on his own pursuit of strength.
He attended the officers' academy at Garreg Mach as a member of the Blue Lions House, alongside his childhood friends. As a student he's aloof, uninterested in anything that does not align with his training, and dismissive of professors and church officials. As Byleth is the professor of the Blue Lion, he was present for Miklan's death, the events in Remire, and Edelgard's reveal as the Flame Emperor plotting war against the continent.
After a five year gap, during which time Dimitri goes missing, Faerghus is, under a mage named Cornelia, turned into a vassal state of the Empire, and his classmates split apart. They reunite together once Byleth returns and Felix serves as a general in Faerghus' army to retake their homeland and defeat Edelgard. Rodrigue joins the army as an advisor but spends his time focused on trying to guide Dimitri - who, at this point, is a shell of himself; this culminates in Rodrigue sacrificing himself to stop an attempt on Dimitri's life, and giving all his final words and guidance onto the prince rather than his last remaining son.
Felix is played from the end of the Azure Moon storyline, which sees Dimitri pull himself together and kill Edelgard, stopping the war on Fodlan. He is set on the path that will, according to his ending, see him become King Dimitri's right-hand man, the successor to the Shield of Faerghus, and advisor on a range of topics.

- Felix is a talented and dedicated swordsman, with high speed and dexterity making him Three Houses' Myrmidon archetype. He starts with advantages to Bow and Fist weapons, and a budding talent for Reason (elemental magic - specifically thunder spells). His disadvantaged stats are in Authority (commanding battalions) and Reason, though the later can be removed if nurtured. Overall this presents a picture of an extremely talented physical combatant, armed and unarmed, long and short range. His preference is for swords, with which he trains daily and extensively, and he is considered a dangerous opponent in a duel. Proof - he can cut fruit and vegetables when thrown at him unexpectedly.
His weakness for Authority means he is a poor leader, doubled up by his ability Lone Wolf, which actively encourages players to not assign him a battalion. Quick to insult and impatient when it comes to those (perceived) weaker, he is better as a single fighter. However, supports suggest his extensive battlefield experience lends towards a talent for devising unorthodox strategies and tactics.
He possess a major Crest of Fraldarius, which occasionally boosts his might (attack damage); in less game-mechanic terms, this means that somewhat randomly his physical damage will be magnified beyond normal human limits. Outside of these instances, he does not have any physical strength beyond that of a well-trained and athletic human. His Crest also grants him the ability to wield the divine Aegis Shield (crafted out of the bones of dragons and embedded with magical Crest Stones; without a corresponding Crest, the user risks turning into a monster).
Though not explicitly backed by canon, Felix, as a son and heir apparent of a very prominent noble family, likely has a smattering of skills and experience with medieval "noble pursuits". Things like horseback riding, formal dancing, hunting, etc. Since he holds distain for knightly chivalry and high-class wastefulness, its unlikely that he'll indulge in any of those activities unless absolutely forced to.
